  • This was the 3rd of 3 bottles I had, the last consumed in 2017. The first 2 were excellent, but I wanted to push the envelope on this one and see where it'd go. 1998 didn't have a great rep in Montalcino, but I rolled the dice because they’re a quality producer. Drank the final bottle on a Feb pandemic winter night, together with pizza/pasta. Lesson learned: the cork looked bad - it didn't break, but it had wine stains almost from end to end. I thought it was cooked, but the nose was lovely. The palate on the other hand tasted....cooked. (not corked, but cooked as in raisin-y) I thought I'd waited too long on it. So I did this: I poured out two small glasses and left the rest in the bottle to slow-ox. After 2 hours and with wild boar ragu, the wine was fantastic. The finish lasted for minutes. So the lesson I learned, is to be patient. Even wines that seem cooked after they're first opened, can come around, and this one did.

  • VinoLaprisco Col d’Orcia Tasting (Hanos Eindhoven, NL): Livelier than the 1999 but also very mature, nuts and cocoa but retains a certain freshness, almost fully resolved tannins, light flavours and not a lot of complexity, light finish but good length.

  • Half-bottle, bought recently. The wine was medium to dark garnet in colour and showed cooked, raisiny fruit, withered flowers, spices, cinnamon and some alcohol, with average length and a metallic and unpleasant aftertaste. Over the hill, probably due to improper storage. NR

  • Amazing wine! Still very fresh and balanced after 20yrs this BDM is structured, fully open and complex. Very long finish with notes of dark cherry, cedar, balsamic, lavender, herbs and mixed spices. I would say it's at its peak and see no reason to hold it any longer. Cheers

  • Tasted next to 2011 and 2012. Very open and expressive on the nose - balsamic notes, herbs, spices, red fruit, flowers. On the palate rather soft with little tannic grip, lovely acidity and fruit, well integrated, layered, long. Lovely. Ready to drink but no rush. 92-94
