  • Impromptu Mouton night (Kai Garden, Marina Square): From a 375ml - a good wine without quite hitting the heights. It had a lovely nose, lots of flowers and spice playing aginst a backdrop of black cherry accents. The palate was surprisingly still rather rich, with ripe notes of strawberries and raspberry ripple, and almost a touch of sweeter dried fruit, riding on a bed of fine, raspy tannins and nicely clear acidity. Not new world-sweet, but certainly on the sweeter side of the Burgundy spectrum, with the meatier, spciier accents that marked the back-palate at first ceding way to the sweeter dried fruit tones through the night. All in all, a rather Vosne-like NSG I thought, and one that was unexpectedly almost a bit too youthful at the moment. There was still quite a chew of tannins at the end, along with sufficient acidity and plenty of fruit - all of which points to a long life still ahead of this wine. This will be interesting to try in a few years time.

  • Dinner at Jade Palace. Half bottle. Deep red, touch of bricking at rim. This was a good wine and I liked it. The initial nose was extremely funky and dirty. Full of barnyard, soil, dirt and with slight aeration, there was iron, blood, copper and very tart fruit. I went Beaune, but this turned out to be an NSG. With extended time in glass, the edges rounded out, and there was much more fruit, with plums, pomegranate, sour cherries, new leather and gravel. The palate was well structured, with representation of a good NSG. Surprisingly acidic (for the vintage and format), this had good balance and was enjoyable. Touch short on the finish and complexity, but that's probably nit picking. Pretty sure this should see an additional couple of points for a 750.
