  • Was so sure this must be ‘02 vintage. On initial pour, this had fantastic velvet like texture, spherical mouthfeel, and without any trace of alcohol. Apparently ABV was just 13%, how did he manage to do that? Eventually ‘02 overtook this with its lively acidity and complexity. For an ‘03, this was very good, better than most. Then again, I am a sucker for this bottling, just like Fourrier Aux Moines and Hubert Lignier MSD 1er Cru.

  • Burgundy at least 20 years old: Very interesting to drink the 2002 and 2003 blind next to each other with the only hint given that these were consecutive vintages. I clearly liked the 2003 better in the beginning as it was showing better concentration and depth, without showing any of the overripe or burned characteristics one can often find in 2003. The 2002 was elegant but seemed a bit more diluted. Was hence thinking this must be a cooler and wetter late 90s vintage. While the 02 did not move much with more air in my eyes, the 03 seemed to pick up some of those very dark notes from the hot summer, but perhaps it was just knowing what was in the glass after the wines were revealed.

  • Drank side by side with the 02. this was so, so fine from the get go. No heat, strong aromatics, lovely finish. But with 90 min of air, this diminished slightly whilst the 02 powered ahead

  • Dinner with Singapore CT friends: Tasted together with the ‘02, was revealed to be a pair of adjacent vintages from the same producer and plot. Many preferred this at the start but I felt that the fruit and curiously high acidity weren’t in balance. Thought this was a ‘96. Still very good mind with a nice sensual texture, but got a little pruney with air.

  • CT dinner at Imperial Grand. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance fine sediment, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of deep dark sexy spice, deep red cherries, emerging earth, darker fruits with more air. Developed.
On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red plums, deep red cherries, black cherries, dark sexy spice. Roasted dark fruits going a bit pruney with more air. Sweet long finish.
Very good quality. Sensually textured and enjoyable while it lasted. With more air he 2003 ripe fruit character shows up. Drink uo.
