  • Nice nose of baked black cherries, pressed flowers and pine forest underbrush. Medium-full bodied and plush. This caresses the palate and has flavors of black cherry juice, rosemary, pine needle tea, cedar and spice box. Excellent wine in the prime of its life! This is elegant and delicious but lacks intensity or persistence. Drink now-2024+ 92

Note: Wines from this house often throw ZERO sediment, even after 10+ years in bottle, but this one had a slight/moderate amount.

92-93 pts

  • Very similar to my previous note. This bottle may be a bit more youthful and a bit more tannic. The interplay between meaty, fruity and dusty notes is very attractive, with a lovely freshness on the finish

  • From Monforte d'Alba, high above Bussia, 14.5% ABV. Mature, garnet colour, with a lively core. Very different from the tough and tannic 2006, this is (almost) smooth and (almost) suave, rich and sweet and spicy, in a meaty but fresh style with firm but velvety tannins; dried fruit finish indicates that this is completely ready. A good wine, but the stylistic differences between the 2006, 2007 and 2008 (enjoyed in 2013 at Le Calandre ***) seem to indicate that Fratelli Alessandria were struggling to find their feet as to the style of the wine in those days. I also have a bottle of the 2009 - it will be interesting to see what that is like.

  • Beautiful Barolo that is drinking well now. It has the meaty body of the 2007- California Style - year combined with finesse and some nice balancing tannins. Entering maturity it is lovely with food now but will last at least 5 more years.
