Youthful, vibrant and elegant, the Leflaive Batard Montrachet 2003 is like a beautiful and charming mademoiselle, with a pure, soft and shining smile on face, and a bunch of fragrant white flowers in hands. She's dancing under the lovely sunshine of 2003, joyfully and elegantly, wearing a delightful perfume with a sense of pear and citrus, as sweet as a taste of light caramel - a delicate, blossoming white rose to me.

Dull, flaccid. Lacking in acidity. It had some alluring buttery citrus notes, tropical fruits and a hint of truffle on the nose, but was unfocused on the palate. Possibly heat damage, or storage issues or a victim of the vintage? Probably not faulty, just underwhelming and disappointing. The foie gras did it no favours and tended to show up its shortcomings.

We were blind tasting, but here I called it off; not fair, almost impossible to identify as great white burg, though a very pleasant drink. Think great California-chard or very good condrieu, this wine is smooth, sweet with some exotic notes and more than a hint of tutti-frutti. An American palate will enjoy this more than a classic European, but note that the wine was not oxidized at all, just very 2003. I have had quite similar experiences with several Montrachet-wines from this year, the vintage speaks louder than the vineyard. (with hsa at Enomania)

Drank over dinner with friends after an array of wines, so no formal notes were taken. Yellow-gold. Intense roast almonds, chalky minerality, green apples and citrus fruit with some tropical scents on the nose. Med+ bodied, with nice fruit, toast, minerality and moderate acidity. Very long aftertaste. This is an off-vintage and so far I have red mostly negative reviews, but all of us were so enthusiastic about it, its only drawback being its relatively low acidity and the fact that it has already reached its maturity stage. That said, this was really enjoyable and memorable.

(Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet) Light lemon yellow color; lemon, pineapple, reduction nose; ripe pineapple, apple, watery, blown out palate with no acidity; medium finish (poured blind, we were all convinced this was a Cali Chardonnay)
