I have found Adelsheim to have stepped up their quality again in recent years. This bottle was a great example of giving a wine enough time in the cellar to reach some level of maturity, where the elements seemlessly blend together. This wine had plenty of red fruit flavors, some earthy, slightly coffee backbone to it. An altogether delightful wine that was wonderful with our dinner of chicken breasts with smoked tomato sauce and black forest ham. It set off the smoky flavors of the sauce and the ham perfectly.

I bought this wine based on the store's recommendation. Did not like it at all. I found it watery and flat. Being a Pinot lover, I expected more fruit and depth. I have a couple more bottles in inventory. Maybe it was a bad bottle.

Half bottle cost $17. Decanted but no time to breathe. The colour is typical Pinot Noir -- translucent red. The aroma is rich, and so is the flavour. Cherries and blackberries come through, and perhaps crushed ripe black raspberry. There are complexity and tanginess. The tannins are not at all prominent, but quite mellowed. Very good (86.5).

The nose is bright and earthy, with a hint of incense and licorice. The flavors combine citris, rose, and red fruit not unlike smooth and elegant variant of sangria. Cherry and cranberry are prominent. This is growing on me; will revisit tomorrow.
Update on day 2 -- a little less tart, and the already extant earth character comes more forward, providing a reference point throughout each sip. The earthyness is not dirty, muddy, gritty or dungy -- more like clean soil. Slightly better than day 1, score raised a point accordingly; will decant next time. Why not 90? I prefer a fuller body with a little more dark fruit and a longer finish -- this isn't wow wine. It is very nice in any case.

I didn't think this was a good representation of the power of Willamette Valley wines when I first opened the bottle. Its musty nose over powered any fruits and their seemed to have a small hint of carbonation. Weird huh? However, after allowing this wine some time and then trying it again the next day, I was pleasantly surprised but what I found. A truly earthy pinot that grabs your attention through its balance. No over the top fruits, but plenty present to balance a meaty earth taste that makes you want to wander the forests of the pacific northwest barefoot and happy. I do think that it's a little expensive for the experience.
