10/29/10 w/ Bruce at Le Meridien hotel in SF. Bruce loved it, and I could tell it was full-bodied and lush, but I could neither taste or smell what he did, nor really appreciate how good this wine undoubtedly is. For some reason, I can no longer pick up what makes zins and chateauneufs so great. Not rated.

Almost the Diet Coke of the 1996 Beaucastel, one of my favorite under the radar CDPs. Nose has some zip, almost a cola note. Supple and delicate on the palate, although there is some fizz on the finish almost reminiscent of a NZ pinot. Tea and cherry notes. Pretty long finish, although the iron is too dominant for my taste at this point. I'd give it another try in 3-5 years.

A Chateauneuf for for Burgundy lovers. Soft, feminine, with terrific length. One Burg nut who tasted it told me he wouldn't be able to pluck it out in a Burgundy blind tasting. A reminder of how much has been lost in the Rhone with the extract and high alcohol. Superb

sold 2nd or 3rd tier wine. certainly doesn't have the power and super long finish of other CDPs but still a solid pleasing wine.
