  • Nose: dark fruit, leather. Pretty
Tasting: medium acid, medium-bodied, some fruit-sweetness (which carried spareribs meal decently), medium tannins (after 2 hours airing). Strawberries, some dark fruit in onset, pretty steep tasting curve evolving into peak of precise, if somewhat abrupt, dark fruit finish. Pepper. Good aftertaste of earth, vanilla, strawberry and chocolate - slight imbalance, though. 86p

  • Nose: sweet blackcurrant, vanilla, flowers, spicy alcohol.

Tasting: fruit-driven, elegant and spicy. Med to full-bodied. Blackcurrant, hint of sweeter red berries quickly entering the picture. Some fruit sweetness. Spicy finish and aftertaste, pepper, licorice, encapsulated by alcoholic warmth. 87p

  • Deep ruby in the glass. A bit tight when just opened, but with a 30-minute decant this offers a lot. Aromas of leather, strawberry shortcake, cinnamon and some dried cranberries thrown in there for good measure. Full-bodied but has a really solid streak of acid to make this wine drinkable and non-flabby. A complex CdP that is approachable now, but will offer a lot with bottle aging. Good to see that these modern producers are going away from styles that you have to age for decades.

  • Deep ruby red colour. Pronounced nose with licorice, black pepper, mint, raisins, prune and dark plum. Pronounced taste of prune, raisins, dark plum, eucalyptus, oak, leather, forest floor and dried fig. Medium long and dry finish. Medium acidity. High tannins. Full body. A very good Châteauneuf du Pape from a very warm vintage. Needed an hour to open up. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well with beef or lamb.
