  • I think the vintage is strongly showing (or lack of) here. Not nearly as powerful or complex as other vintages of C.W.D. that I've enjoyed over the years. The complexity is as best as it will be and also a lower acidity vintage IMHO. Very good now, but I don't see this improving much. Drink or short term hold.

  • Virtual Northern Rhone with 1 shiraz (zoom): Poured into jars about 5pm for transport and into glass at 630pm, Drank a glass plus over 45 minutes. Extremely complex, with bread dough, lemon oil, slightly oxidative, rich and gorgeous. It clearly had some age, probably as good as it will get.

  • Virtual Northern Rhone Tasting (Home): Medium gold color. Poured into jars about 5pm for transport and into glass at 630pm, Drank a glass plus over 45 minutes. This was in a good spot too, showing maturity and layers of complexity while still retaining its verve. On the nose there's honey, apple, baked apricot, lemon, lacqueur, chalk and most subtle bread dough. The palate offers a richness both in texture and depth; deeply layered with tart lemon, lemon oil, baked apricot, dry stone and chalk, ever so slightly oxidative with more subtle honey and spices on a striking finish. This was likely peaking, and I don't think i would push it considerably further - drink over the next several years.

  • Very yeasty on the nose and darkish yellow color. Good poise, excellent bubbles still, delicious toastiness. This is a better food champagne than a sipping champagne - I sipped the whole thing sans food with a friend and toward the end it began to wear me out because of its maturity and richness, but it would pair beautifully with food. This should be drunk now.

  • Second time I'm having this one, and it is better than the first time. Great nose, well balanced yeast. Somewhat darker gold compared with the '99 Deutz William I had just few weeks ago. light lime and citrus on the nose and palate. Just like last time, very stable long bubbles. I can tell the finish was longer than I recalled in 2017. Excellent match for the steak and light Italian dishes served for lunch. The only problem is that it would make it harder to enjoy somewhat younger champagnes :-)

It earned the 95 grade, and it's a problem as this would not be a daily drink (this year started with too many top end well-aged champagnes)
