This is not one of the world’s great wines. But at A$12 a bottle can anyone name a wine drinking better at 18 years from vintage? This bottle is obviously pristine. I have had some issues with TCA with Tahbilk in the past... But wow. I reckon 2000 was an average year at best. Colour is good...translucent and going towards brick red. This is not a big wine. Cedar, truffels, tobacco and tomato dominate the nose. Would not call this fruity. The palate is seamless. Perhaps a bit mono dimensional (A$12 a bottle!) Silky smooth. A hint of sweetness but not fruity. The fruit that is there is decidedly pomegranate and cranberries. Enough tannin (chalky) and acid to suggest that this wine will go at least another 5 years. Leathery. Elegant with serious length. I bought 2 dozen of these on release. This is the second one I have opened. Sometimes I get it right... How lucky are we in Oz that Tahbilk whacks large volumes of gorgeous fruit into large oak and hopes for the best. In Oz this is called consistency. What else can I say...

Smells like a wet hessian sack full of mushrooms, plus hints of blackberry and vinegar. Light-bodied, silky mouthfeel, with lovely flavours of blackcurrant, leather, and mushroom, enlivened by piquant acidity with a hint of vinegar. A second bottle was not as good: it was still drinkable, but had no fruit.

This is on a downward trajectory at this point. Visually, this looks thin with some bricking. On tasting, it again seems thin with some slight bitterness. However the finish is moderately long and shows fruit and cedar.

Past it's peak. Oxidized and smells of prunes and vinegar
Cork was also crumbly.
