Incredibly young and dense, this is - from a perfectly stored bottle - still 5 years away from full maturity. Dense dark fruit, cassis, but also some underwood and (for a lack of other descriptor) a rough structure.
Reminded me a bit of a Montelena Estate 1987, that is also not fully mature yet.
With about an hour in the decanter this develops nicely and works super well with food.
Great fun to drink!

Some Wine Tasted Watching the Chicago Air & Water Show (Chicago, IL): Walk around tasting. From 6L that had been opened and decanted several hours earlier. A real treat with intense black plum and currant, showing cassis, eucalyptus, and mint, with faint black truffle notes. Very big, very balanced. So enjoyable, thanks, Bob!

Opened, but not decanted. Cork completely destroyed on removal, so it was pushed into the bottle with a filter-pourer inserted. Consistent notes with prior bottle, if showing just a bit more age on the palate. Wish I had more.

Opened but not decanted about 30 minutes prior to anniversary dinner at Anvil. Surprising amount of tannins still present upon opening, but this opened nicely over the course of the meal. No noticeable sign of age in the glass - perhaps just the tiniest bit of bricking. Nose reminiscent of a bordeaux with green pepper, cedar, graphite and black fruits. Palate showed more black fruits and dusty tannins that integrated nicely. I think this was still improving by the end of the meal. Beautiful.
