  • Absolutely superb. Everything you could possibly hope for out of old Coche. The youth and freshness is beguiling. Clean, bright, and fresh, but shows wonderful development, honeysuckle, smoke, ripe and open orchard fruit with no signs of browning. Still faintly reductive in distinct house style and also a little leesy. Impressive depth and power. Dense but light and has elegance and easy edges in its maturity. This really is about as good as it gets for White Burgundy I think. Best white of the trip, not that there were a ton, but easily the most impressive. Another perfect bottle from Captain Coche.

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow/gold center with clear rims. The medium intensity nose put forth green apples, citrus, pear, white stone, and toasty oak.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with great acidity. Not surprisingly it had outstanding length.

This wine didn’t show much oak in the beginning and was great. As it aired, more oak flavor came to the fore. Then it appeared to recede to some degree. I wonder if the oak would fade into the background with extended air?

Some tasters may not find the oak flavors as distracting as I do. They would almost certainly rate this wine higher. However, there is no doubt this is a quality bottle that is right in the zone.

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a deep yellow center with clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose offered up apples, vanilla, citrus, and a hint of honey.

This got better and better as it sat in the decanter. It was rich and ripe with great balance and length. There was also nice fine-grained acidity and mineral elements in the finish.

Some in the group said they had tasted better bottles. Bottle variation would make me nervous about this wine's exulted price tag.

  • This was just off the charts awesome. The perfume jumps right of the glass and pulls you in, with a lot of the elements of the 1986 but with fresher fruit aromas, that classic Coche matchstick and a hint of coffee on the nose too. This wine was round, wide open, and just delicious.
