Excellent. Bracing acidity cuts through the ripe California merlot dark fruit. Well integrated but still felt young. An AFWE merlot outside of Pomerol/St. Emilion is hard to find. Impressed by this.

Austere is the word, but in a sophisticated, balanced way. Fruit is only an echo, but has been replaced with all kinds of mature, intriguing secondary and tertiary aromas and flavors. Still a bit of interesting tannin as well.

Purchased 6/2012 in Richmond, VA and stored in cellar until drinking (no idea of how stored before). This wine needs airtime and did not move on the 2nd night - beautiful nose - orange peel, dried cherry, tobacco. Unfortunately, as prior taster noted, there is no fruit on the palate - Medium body / med+ acids & medium length finish. 89-90 range (great nose though).

Took a couple hours to really open up but then was a nice balance of tannins and dark fruit. Feels like it has a bit more time but certainly at the end of its peak

Very curious. Quite austere and dry, kind of like a Chianti. Hints of fruit on the nose. Earthy and aciditic, lacking fruit. I wonder if it's an off bottle. I'm thinking yes, based on comments below. I'm going to withhold on scoring.
