This was a fabulous wine which is worth having at this stage. Melancholy fruit with a richness is secondary noes which is unique. I get dried cherry, raisin and charcoal on the initial flavors. Mid palette includes a laid back fruit (present but restrained) and earthy notes like mushroom. It is a lovely wine.

Rich plums and somewhat ripe greet on the nose with some cigar ash arising later on. Bright fruit up front with a touch of tartness but not with much power or complexity. The fruit doesn't really carry through the midpalate like you might expect. The tannin comes late and coats evenly and softy. Enough acidity to give this some length even if it's not as even as you might want. The fruit doesn't really show it's age but the feel seems to indicate it's laying back. A solid if unspectacular wine but clearly made with a traditional hand and eye. I don't see the fruit depth for the kind of improvement you might want from extended aging and it drinks fine now. I wonder if any other Merlot out of Napa is made like this anymore?

Decanted about 3 hours prior to consumption. Bright cherry like characters one the nose and palate. Late acting tannin above strong acidity. Lean feeling palate with little sign of extraction. This was actually on the tight side for me though the fruit expression was bright and fresh. This has a ways to go but I like where it could go. Solid value.

Poker VI - We're Drinking F$#! Merlot (WCC): Dark like a syrah in color. Nose of fruit and black licorice. nice bright cherry and tannis on the palate, maybe even a little jolly rodgers candy.
Lots of structure and a medium+ finsih
