Wines of Napa and Sonoma (Farpointe Cellar): Decanted about 1 1/2 hours. The nose had cherry and earth, cedar and plum, mocha and spice, and a faint vanilla finish. The palate was soft, with cherry and chocolate, plum and earth, spice, and a good vanilla finish.

Saturdays at One - Volume 37: Tasted non blind. Opened and decanted 90 minutes before serving. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of thistle, berries and plums. Flavors of berries, cranberries and cherries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink now. 90.

One of the best merlots I've had yet. so not like what I've had in the past. Extremely smooth with a nice tang to the flavor. I think these mountain tannins needed the time to come together. Not fruit forward but fruit was nicely in balance with acidity and something else I couldn't define. All in all pretty good. I would seek Mayacamas merlot out in the future and put it down for several years.
