Medium red-garnet color. Pork broth, leather and bay leaf dominate the nose; some red fruits (cherry, cranberry, raspberry) in the background. On arrival, smooth low tannin and medium acidity; easy drinking, meat-y and fruity, lovely and clean. Medium finish. From harvest of Clape's young Cornas plantings (between ten and twenty years old) and his "foot of the hill" vines. Bottle #4 of four.

Medium garnet-red color. Aromas meaty and game-y, big cherry fruit and smoke from a leafy yard trash burn. On arrival, medium-low tannin and medium-high acidity. Screechy-acids stick out in a lean and dry mouth. Where the fruit and meat ? In two hours, no softening and still an exercise to drink. Attenuated finish. Bottle #3 of four.

Medium red color. Meaty and leathery nose, cherry and raspberry fruit, vague garrigue. On arrival, low tannin and medium acidity. Savory and dry, medium finish. Mis-racked with '96 Cornas.

Medium-light garnet-red. Drinkable, tangy and earthy. Gives little pleasure in the mouth. After one glass, this went into the fridge for a cooking project next week. We waited too long on this puppy, a weaker vintage from the get-go. Bottle #5 of six.

Medium red. Nose of olives, roast pork, raspberry, black pepper. Medium acid, medium-low tannin. Showing a heavy black-purple sedimentation. Clape Cornas-like in every respect, with tangy acids on the long finish. Young, very nice, probably still improving in the bottle. The first year that Clape bottled the young vine juice (16 year old plants) separate from the main bottling. Bottle # 4 of four.
