  • We sipped at Dell'anima in NYC, which is a fun, vibrant and very good dining option for an evening of excellent food with a smile. Nothing like an orange wine to start the evening. It is fun, not wonderful. One glass….for fun! Chef likes!

  • An evening of Italian wines with friends (Cleveland): I really like this wine. It did seem to show more age though than a bottle last fall. Golden in color. The nose shows a slightly oxidized note (is this aged in amphorae?). A whiff of salinity is the first thing that really hits the nose. Then some honey and slight nutty qualities. Eventually, citrus comes out. Really interesting. On the palate, Chris questioned the acidity, but I found it persistent. Nice citrus and slight earthy flavors. Showing a nice complexity. I would not hold a lot longer, but no real hurry either.

  • A fascinating Slovenian wine, from Ribolla (Rebula) vines 80+ years old. Straw-peach skin tinge with unusual nose of light citrus and nutty almond/walnut tones. Precise on the palate, with lively balanced acidity and a touch of appealing bitterness which accentuates the bright fruit. A welcome change from the ordinary.

  • Northeast Italy (and the surrounding Parts) (Cleveland): This is 100% Ribolla Gialla. I was told that it sees some time in Amphorae but I don't think so. I thought it was fermented and aged on its lees in barrique until bottling. In any event, my wife commented it acted more like a red wine and I think that is correct. deep yellow in color. The nose is reticent at first, but with air, a mineral note is accompanied by sort of scent of being in a field on a hot summer day (if that makes sense). Really nice. Complex and layered on the palate, it really is much bigger drinking than sniffing. Not huge, medium bodied, but a lot going on. As I drink it, I am struck by the concentration. Nice balance and food friendly. Although we were tasting thru a lot of wine, I asked for more.

  • Interesting and characterful sweet-sour aroma - citrus, honey, (blue?)berry, nuts, grain, soil, a bit of salty sea air. Has some notes suggestive of red wine, beer, and certainly orange wine; the golden color falls somewhere in between typical white and orange wines. And not explicitly oxidative, but hints at it. On the palate, honeyed fruity flavors - mainly citrus, stone fruit, and golden apple - with floral, berrylike, saline, mineral, earthy, nutty, and grainy accents. Full flavored, good intensity. Good acidity. Medium-full bodied, with some nice oiliness/silkiness; just a touch of tannic grip. Fairly long finish, mainly fresh stone fruit and a bit of minerality. Nice!
