From perfect storage, this bottle was everything you want from a mature Fontodi. I do not see this improving, so if you have well stored bottles go ahead and open them up.

Gorgeous right now. Red cherry, raspberry, mushrooms, dried tomato leaf, smoked meat and a cool sanguine quality to it. Strucutre is great. Acidity is still alive and kicking, a little bit of tannins too. But that being said, drink now. Paired with a simple pasta topped with shaved white truffles.

This was a very nice bottle. Dark. Smooth. Well integrated. Not complex but still the solid a Sangiovese done Fontodi style. Hit its stride between hours 2 and 4. The fruit actually showed itself the most between hours 4 and 5.
Of the 90s bottles I have tasted, it was second to the 95 (great vintage). Unlike a previous poster, I found it quite nice but that could be a testament to bottle variation. I found the 97 and 99 to be major letdowns compared to the 95 and 96.
Drink now. This will probably start to fade within the next two to three years.

Drunk with pan-fried then roasted dry aged grass-fed UK rib-eye with bone in. Slightly better than the last bottle. Colour was slightly murky red/black. Nose of cherries and some rose but not suffiently compelling. Not enough sangivese fruit in the mouth, though the tannin is smooth. Really a let down compared with its illustrious siblings from other vintages.
