10 years old and I expected to encounter a wine fully mature in optimal drinking window. Turns this out te be still quite young and stubborn, especially stubborn.
the color is definitely ruby with some garnet edges. Pretty intense nose with shoe polish, licorice, smoke, asphalt, charred wood but also the more Mediterranean fruit spectra, figs, raisins, prunes. Intense palate with enough acidity to encounter the richness. Earth, herbes de Provence, smoke and again the southern fruits, some a bit dried or stewed. Very dry despite the 14,5% and still a fierce tannine structure on day 1, the wine cooled down now on day 3. Nevertheless a full bodied wine with complexity and good sappiness. A joy to drink and it will keep for at least 5 more years.

Light garnet. Shy nose of wizzened red berries, dark plums, rose petals, a hint of baking spices and vanillin oak. Salty sweet presence on the palate with strong acids, lovely aromatic back notes on a light sweet tannic base, very long finish. Beautiful evolution. 14.5% alcohol.

Peak if I’ve ever tasted it. Currants and roadside spices. Silky but viscous for an 80% grenache. Oak fading, fruit still lively. Totally in balance. 10 years and older is when I start to prefer Terrasse du Diable over Les Racines, but this Racines 2012 may outkick its coverage. Glad I have another.
