  • From Art's cellar. Dining alone so I "gambled" on this 30-year-old Cru Bourgeois. I won. Crimson bowl, amber rim. Wine was clear. Upon opening, wine had a nose of red raspberry fruit and bitter watercress, more like a Pinot Noir. As time passed following decant, nose developed into standard Bordeaux: red currant and pencil shavings. Green aromas completely dissipated. Immediately after decant, wine tasted a bit thin and slightly bitter. It gained weight with smooth Cabernet fruit evolving buttressed by hints of plum and some anise at the finish. Good balance. The longer the wine was in the decanter, the better it got. Last swallow (which was the best) was 2 and 1/2 hours after decanting. As with Wineteacher, who has also rated this wine, price was $6.37 in 1989. Wow!

  • Very high shoulder full. The cork was in perfect condition and very clean on top under the foil. It came out clean. A long cork too. The wine is now red but not overly tiled in color. Nice mature and complex bouquet. Medium weight. No sign of oxidation. Completely pleasure giving with light cedar and warm taste. Even more satisfying is that the pre-computer era tag on the bottle shows the sale price of $6.37 bought in 1989. Nice modest wine living a long life.
