Nose of slightly smokey pineapple. Flavors carry some oak (just enough), but lemon and ginger flavors sing. Long finish with a touch of bitterness that kept its score under the 90s.

An interesting beast. Rather OTT for the 10 mins or so, this settled into a more refined wine. The oak notes remained but more integrated less shouty. Impressive focus. Quite lemony on the palate. With air and warmer, notes of ginger a touch of tropicality come out but it remains in control. May need a year or two more but a very high quality wine.

Celebration of Chardonnay (De Wetshof, Robertson): (Tasted Blind): Mid-yellow in colour with savoury notes and a touch of apple, pear, lemon, and melon. Juicy and fruity are sweet spices on entry, but not the typical caramel flavours I expected. It is a dry and intense wine that is full-bodied with a fleshy texture and green apple acidity. Prominent apples and Forelle pears, some smoky and toasty notes, the savoury characters reflect the 2013 vintages whilst the mid-palate has the increased richness. The finish is long with a warm spice and alcohol note present, closing with a touch more mineral. Yet, the wine lacks a little concentration on my part. Grapes from a steep SE-facing block, planted in 1988 on mostly decomposed granite and aged in 92% new oak barrels from Damy, Chassin, and Rousseau. Only add SO2 just before bottling. The 2013 is considered a textbook vintage.
