  • Nose is still quite lively but quite short on the finish. We weren’t too pleased with it. I’d drink these soon

  • Still easily 93 points+ tonight but not much longer. Drinking superbly tonight, highly recommend. Our only bottle, acquired as part of a much larger cellar contents purchase. Did a short ~ 30 minute decant, easily could have gone a little longer. A huge surprise to us, not really knowing what to expect expect. A Robert Mondavi / Marchesi de Frescobaldi project, basically Mondavi's effort to duplicate the Opus One success with super Tuscans out of Italy. Heavily sedimented, dark purple / almost inky black, minimal bricking, completely mature and perhaps slightly but not much past prime, any oak / tannins now completely integrated so time to drink up any remaining holdings, very soft, medium bodied with a medium long pleasant aftertaste. Soft nose of plum, stone and a higher lavender type note. Flavors of dark stone fruit, garrigue and spices but I think these are starting to fade a bit.

  • From my posting on Instagram:

In Vino Veritas (in wine there is truth; people speak the truth when they are drunk), bottles #99, 100 and 101 of my cellar sacrifices. Did some more cellar culling this weekend and finally got around to drinking my 3 only bottles of Luce; which was an initial release 1993, and the two subsequent years, 94 and 95. As background, it originally started out as a collaboration between Frescobaldi and Mondavi, with a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. When Mondavi sold out to Constellation Brands, Frescobaldi took this on as their own Super Tuscan in 2005. Interesting that the website doesn’t even show the initial release, which was 1993. Anyway, the 1993 cork (and all of them for that matter) looked terrible, but it tasted pretty good for a 25+ year old wine. The 94 and 95 unfortunately, wound up being poured down the drain because they were undrinkable. My bad for waiting too long. 😀🍷🍷🍷👍👎👎 #wine #winelover #winelovers #redblend #redblendwine #luce #supertuscan

  • Picked this from my list of Italian wines because the drinking interval was supposed to be over in 2009. I was amazed that it was still delicious with a Sangiovese nose and vibrant fruit. Much better than I expected. Unfortunately it was my last bottle of this wine

  • My WOTN. This is that rare thing: a flawless wine at an absolute perfect moment in it's life. Shows younger than it is, more middle-aged than mature; deep flavors and huge aromas with loads of sweet black cherry fruit and tobacco. Wow.
