  • Stellar surprise. Drinking absolutely superbly and beautifully tonight with no decant and relatively little aeration in glasses prior to consumption. Our only bottle - a one off acquisition as part of a much larger cellar contents purchase. Even though this wine is fully matured, well integrated and in a great drinking window I cannot believe how relatively youthful it seems with no drop off or degradation - on the other hand the oak and tannins are all gone so definitely time to drink up any remaining holdings, no further upside to further cellaring. This wine is very likely teetering on the edge of degradation. Very interesting wine - Robert Mondavi's attempt to concurrently replicate the success of the Opus One partnership with the Rothschilds with an Italian super Tuscan partnership with the Marchesi de Frescobaldis resulting in a beautiful merlot and sangiovese blend super Tuscan with currently neither grape varietal particularly dominant. Bold dark fruit forward and surprisingly sweet nose. Soft mouth feel yet full bodied, deep purple, peripheral bricking noted and a long lingering aftertaste. Complex notes of dark fruit including dark cherry and plum initially with earthier notes of terroir, stone and tar developing later on the palate. Highly recommend with the understanding that this wine is now likely in a rapidly diminishing window of returns.

  • Aromas of blackberry, leather, dried cherry and earth. Flavors of raspberry, dried cherry, earth and leather. Ends with a tar and cherry infused finish of 20-25 seconds. This is holding on nicely with room to spare.

  • Cork soaked from the wine but it held up and was very tasty. Enjoyed this blast from the past.
