  • A great bottle. My lone bottle purchased at auction a few year ago. This was really smooth with integrated tannins. If I owned more it could certainly last longer but I felt this was really great from the pop and pour. Black fruit profile with some herbs and spices on the palate. I will look to purchase more if I can find it at a reasonable price.

  • I enjoyed the ‘11 very much last night so excited to get into this, it is immediately noticeably a bit darker as the red edges don’t encroach on the center as much.

Nose: more fresh oak and minerality: graphite sticks out along with fresh flowery sweetness, anise, and red cherry. A district menthol is also there, as well as some more red fruits.

Right off the bat the texture is very soft and pretty light for most cabs, it retains a milky quality with an appropriately dry finish that lasts for quite some time. Flavors of cherry, graphite, and a light tobacco/dark chocolate finish on the palate. Like the ‘11 there is a lot of balance and all the flavors, textures, front-back, etc are in harmony.

    Beautiful wine.

  • Fourth stop on our ninth day in Napa Valley is at Perliss Vineyards in Calistoga where we tasted a few vintages of the Perliss The Ravens by Aaron Pott and Anthony Perliss as well as a couple wines from Wingspan Wines by Aaron Pott and Tessa Perliss. Thank you again for having us out at your estate. It was devistating to see the damage from the latest fires running through here. Fourth wine up and first in a four year vertical was the 2012 The Ravens Cabernet Sauvignon from Perliss Estate. This is made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Perliss Estate Vineyard in Calistoga. This is aged for a total of 20 months in new French oak barrels and terra-cotta amphoras. This was decanted for three hours prior to tasting.

Dark purplish red. Rich nose coated in dark berries, baking spices and some broken branches. Medium tannins (6.5/10) with a full body. Earthy mouthfeel with dark red berries, especially raspberries. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2028.

  • Tasted at vineyard with Anthony Perliss. Red and blue fruit, smoked meat and pepper. Tannin starting to integrate. Big and somewhat complex but does not punch you in the face. There is some elegance here. Nice.
