High fill and cork in good condition. Dusty dark berries and a typical St Estephe spiciness on the nose. Cloves, pepper, sage, thyme and subtle tertiary flavours such as cedar. On the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced with well-integrated tannins. Slender to medium body. The wine was present immediately after opening and developed nicely over 1 to 1.5 hours in the glass. After two hours, it slowly faded. Classic mature old school Bordeaux. Excellent

Opened to serve with chukar birds. Opened 2 hours before dinner. While past its prime, this was still a lovely, if soft, wine. Little to no tannins but smooth with some structured depth of taste. Wish we had opened a few years back but still enjoyable.

Académie des Cinquante Tasting and Dinner with the Académie du Vin de Bordeaux (Restaurant Entrepot, Amsterdam, NL): Magnum. Youthful, mature, lively, delicate aromas and flavours, oyster shell nose, gentle spice, gentle tannins, fresh and with a lovely evolution. A wonderful, mature Saint-Estèphe.

A respectable St. Estephe still holding up... likely as good as it will be!
