Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 89.3 points

  • This was served blind, which is always great with 2004s, as it means you shouldn't be immediately swayed into writing these off with the usual assumption that this will be lean and green. That said... Unfortunately, the opening word on my tasting note was... 'green'

There is no doubt this is still a great wine. Clear, Ruby. But a vegetal nose. Black fruits. Bell pepper and a bit green. This was much tighter and closed verses a Charmes Chambertin Rousseau 04 drank alongside. This was much darker in colour, and did get better and better with air. This was deep and layered. Just a shame it was a bit green and vegetal, as that must stop this scoring any higher.

  • Drank at home over two days. Serious nose of freshly cut grass and rhubarb. More of the same on the palate. Some brighter red fruit came in over a couple hours but could not get past the green streak. Nice texture. Held up reasonably well on day two. Very much a creature of the vintage.

  • Slightly sweet, fragrant and lacking a little substance, but better than most 2004s. A slight hint of the 2004 greenness on the finish. Should keep well.

  • Completely closed nose that did not budge the whole night. A nicely made wine with good texture and moth feel, but its simple and the only fruit that came out was a touch of rhubarb after a lot of shaking. The winemaking skills mean its still easy to drink, but the palate warmer had a bit more character.

  • Way to young! Very disjointed and disharmonious. Smells like vegetables meets potato soup. Strange - No rating here.
