  • Unexpectedly youthful. Perfect condition with wine in the neck of the bottle. Color was deep ruby with some garnet, but judging from the color alone, I would have guessed this was a 1995, not a 1982. The nose was gorgeous. Full of fruit, iron rust. The palate was silky, medium bodied and teh finish was long. A very pleasant surprise.

  • Served at a private dinner, Little Cove Noosa. This wine opened beautifully with a deep red-crimson colour and an elegant nose of blackcurrant and garnet plums balanced by touches of dark chocolate, truffle and violets. The palate has that beautifully rounded 1982 character with the fruit melting into a tertiary mix of dark chocolate, truffles, cedar and earth. There are no discernible tannins but the palate lingers nicely and creates a final impression of warmth, richness and elegance. A lovely wine still very alive.

  • Brought to 67PM by a generous fellow Vinous-user, and in really good condition; it even benefited from being decanted. Really attractive, almost sexy, very 'mature Right Bank' nose, full of smoke and truffle, a hint of menthol and camphor, pretty much entirely tertiary. Plenty of freshness and energy to the palate, and good balance, but required a bit of time to wake up and never quite hit the heights of the nose. Towards the end of the bottle I even detected a hint of sweetish red fruit! Lovely stuff.

  • A friend of a friend, who's in the trade, brought this one as a gift a year or so back, just before COVID, at a little brick oven party we hosted for a circle of my wife's old college friends. He warned me it was a roll of the dice - but I was still quite grateful. Wouldn't have mattered to me if it was vinegar, I just really appreciated the fun of the experiment. Anyways, it just seemed time to finally open it.

Oh my goodness, if we're rolling dice, this one was double 6s. I know he had this bottle properly cellared from it's original arrival stateside. The top of the cork was intact, but the bottom crumbly. I filtered it into a decanter, gave it an hour, then started sipping while prepping dinner. Initially, I got a little prune and wondered if it was spent. But that blew off by about the third sip, and then I got some sweet cherry and cranberry notes, of all things. In a very pleasant way. Surprised me how much fruit is still present. Everything is well in balance, and there are still a touch of tannins on the back, also to my surprise.

As pleasant as this was to sip before dinner - it was even better with the lamb chops I pulled off the grill. And a few hours later, after dinner, it's still drinking wonderfully. It appears there won't be any of this one leftover for tomorrow ....

I know it depends on the bottle, but if you still have one in the cellar, in proper condition, it sure seems like it has plenty of life left to me.

  • An imperfect bottle, probably ever so slightly corked, but still drinkable and it improved with air. Lacks the explosive, exotic aromatics the best bottles of this can show. Leathery, earthy, deep, silky, and just slightly off. NR.
