This is beginning to have browny flashes when you swirl it it the glass and at the moment it’s a heady mix of mint and jammy fruit but also showing an emerging sweaty saddle character. I think this has quite a long way to go.

A healthy garnet colour. Bright. Even on opening the nose shows a riot of ripe dark fruits, but with freshness and energy - not jammy and treacly. The palate is smooth and sweet in that Australian way, with peach skins coming through. Charming and understated, given where it’s from, but perhaps a bit straightforwardly fruity.

This is a fantastic wine. It ticks all the boxes for me. It has lots of dark fruit, blackberries and some plums. The tannins are soft and well integrated, with some good acidity to balance it all out very nicely. The wine lingers long and pleasantly in the mouth. It drinks very well now, but will probably develop well for another couple of years. If you can find it, buy it. It is so good.

Wow, I really liked this. I was in the mood for a bigger, fruitier wine than we normally drink and was afraid (despite the reputation of Yarra Yering for restraint) that the wine might be goopy or overblown. Not at all. It was rich for sure, with lots of blackberry and black currant fruit, but there was a strong earthy-cocoa element along with a hint of dark licorice. With some air, a nice floral topnote added to the complexity and the wine firmed up. I also really like the shape of the tannins. I went back to buy some more from the same source, and it was gone. I gotta get better at trying things faster.
