    Notes of a Novice

This was a side-by-side test with a 2011 Barolo, Seghesio. Personally I preferred the Barolo.

    14.5% alcohol

    • very thin, but with visible color variation
    • very wide rim
    • on the nose, mild, fruity, hint of sweet
    • alcohol very prominent, reminiscent of Schnapps
    • tastes young, refreshing, light
    • quite dry - only an intimation of sweetness
    • plums, hint of cherries, mixed with hint of Schnapps
    • solid tannins
    • slight bitter aftertaste, which does not linger, and seems to add to body
    • body is very light
    • long on tannins
    • bit heady
    • PERSONAL NOTE
    • as is, I would not buy this wine again - needs a lot of aging.

Corked, refrigerated, tasted the next day. Aroma is very delicate, and for my taste, the wine turned into a wall-flower. Too modest.

Left some in a wide glass to breathe for about 8-10 hours, and it turned into a lovely wine - nice and balanced. Could use long decanting on day 1.

  • I must have had this from tank. My notes are "fresh and bright like a really good gamay." And again, I am positive I was at the winery, drinking this one straight from the stainless steel tank. There it is.
