  • #15-96, 9% abv. From half-bottle. The colour of a light madeira, but certainly far fresher than that. Relatively light, with more of a texture that feels like Auslese than sweetness. In fact, by modern standards, this is probably more like Kabinett sweetness. Quite high acidity, but disappointingly simple on the palate, showing very heightened acidity and a bit of thinness that I wouldn't expect from a Dönnhoff Auslese.

  • A lovely pre-dessert wine. Medium sweet--not at all a full dessert wine--with ripe peaches, lemons, dried apricots, a touch of poached quinces, and an intense salty minerality that becomes increasingly vivid with time in the glass. An astonishingly long aftertaste. Certainly good for another five years and probably much longer. [Tasted from the Jancis Robinson glass.]

  • In a word, stunning! This was all I could ask of a wine. Perfectly matured, showing peach fruit, spices, a subtle creaminess and finishing honey and bright orange. All that said it is so much more than a list of aromas and flavors. It's a complete wine, bracing and mouthfilling, sweet yet dry, satisfying and fascinating. Brilliant!

  • Dominated by unpleasant chemical, bleach-like smells and very disjointed and awkward in the mouth - doesn't seem like a pristine bottle.
