100 % Aglianico. Maceration on the skins for 10-12 days, aged in traditional French and Slavonian oak barrels for at least 24 months, 14% vol.
Quite austere when opened, so I decided to decant 3 hours before dinner, this helped a lot. On the nose prune, black cherries with a suggestion of balsamic notes, on the palate medium to high acidity, good depth and long finish. Classic Aglianico at the beginning of its drinking window, will easily last for another 10 to 12 years. A long decant is highly recommended at this stage.

I agree with Wetrock here. This is in many respects a wine of a bygone era. Rustic, masculine, very evocative of the region. This strikes me as a bit Cahors-like, but the Cahors of Hemingway. On a cold night, superb. I doubt this will improve and it is just barely hanging on to its dried dark fruits. Drink up and enjoy!

On the rustic side as expected with my previous experience of this producer. Moderate bricking though you shouldn't expect bright color in a wine of this type anyway. Aromas of leather, dried herbs, balsamic and cherry. The palate shows impeccable balance with still astringent tannin and lively acidity. The expression is more of that rustic tone with dried fruits and leathery notes. The really drinks like a wine that saw a lot of wooden tank aging prior to bottling. A rare thing these days. The structure is here for the ages. Super classic winemaking here. The fruit maybe for the here and now. I don't see a lot of room for improvement. Overnight this showed more hints of oxidation than on night one. A perfect companion for a sort of charcuterie evening or any sort of thing that will play well with tannin. A solid value.

Decanted 3 hours before dinner. Elegant Aglianico, black cherry with a hint of underwood and balsamic notes, good freshness, perhaps even a bit spicy, medium bodied and medium to long finish. Ready for business with additional potential, drink now or within the next 8+ years, 91+.

My note from almost exactly two years ago still serves this wine. These sorts of wines tend to have slow aging curves. Enjoy with dinner.
