  • Fresh redcurrant, hint of cedar and spice, still some structure, but has mellowed over the years. Decent cru bourgeois, very good value and shows the benefit of patience - drink now and until 2025.

  • Starting to drop its fruit and focus on its earthy, cedar and tobacco character, this medium-bodied, red berry filled wine requires drinking in the immediate future.

  • Bought originally when still in the barrel at a knock down price, this wine was well above my expectations. Mellow but still vibrant, lots of red fruit, no sharp edges and a pretty long finish. Probably at its peak now. In a terrific year like 2005 it is possible to find much undervalued but great wine and this is certainly one of them given its modest price

  • Kept mostly under condition 2 since december 2007 (see my profile). Color: unusually dark ruby. Nose at the third day with cedar and other mature notes. Taste at the first day: after 10 minutes in the glass despite the age of this bottle quite vivid red and dark fruit, a hint of iodine and a minty note in the finish. At the third day dark and red fruit, with good mature notes, all well integrated. Nicely herbal in the finish (mint and sage). Maybe a little bit tired, but really nice. The acidity was OK. Still some tannins in the taste, also at the third day - maybe because of some overextraction? Nevertheless keeping this wine for such a long time has payed off. This experience encourages to cellar other 2005 Medocs further. This wine was at its peak now; 87-88 on its own, with food 88.

  • A bit muted on opening but fills out after an hour in a decanter, and the freshness and redcurrant goes well with food.
