The Keller is a stunning wine for less than 20€. During the Wittmann is broad and with yellow stone fruits this is elegant and austere. 89

  • Even if this were in Philipp's top rung of wines, which it is not, it would validate his reputation as one of Germany's top producers. The fact that it's not even a GG (although in large part sourced from Grosse Lage vineyards) demonstrates even more emphatically what a fabulous producer he is. The wine is pure and mineral with some roundness of texture and then beautiful acidity that kicks in late in the mouth. There's an attractive spiciness in the nose and mouth, and of course, great energy. Cellared since original release.

  • More developed than expected, still primary notes of apricot, but the nose is more dominated by ripe apple, lemon candy, creamy notes of panna cotta and some mediterranean herbs. On the palate with racy acidity, again some ripe apple and orange peel, medium to long finish with an irritating sweetness which I don't remember from the last bottle? Still a very good wine and pleasant to drink, but in terms of development and character a bit underwhelming? Cork and bottle looked perfect so not estimating a bottle issue here.
After 2 Days: probably had a bad day or it needed some air, but the impression of sweetness is entirely gone, instead there are some nice chalky notes added and both nose and palate is more on the citrus side than before.
