Lots of temptation to give this one a 95. In careful consideration, this is a 94. Nose of raspberry, oregano, herb. Palate that is intense, black cherry and raspberry, brambly, earthy. I get a soil and terroir note here. Bleu cheese. Went well with herbed chicken. The finish has a little of black pepper and baking spice. Still a bit of youth here, and I think that this is going to improve quite a bit in the bottle over the next 3 to 5 years.

Winter in Wineland; 1/14/2017-1/20/2017 (Sonoma & Napa): This is a bit further out (about 6 miles from the coast, 300 ft in elevation) than the vineyard on the main property. Had the same vineyard manager and so Cobb learned about the property early and started working with the fruit. Again a very light and open wine. Takes advantage of the natural elegance of the Pinot grape. A bit more meaty and almost with some salinity that I didn't get on the Coastlands. Hints of metallic. More red currant. Comes from a volcanic ash soil. Also very enjoyable - hard to pick among the three wines.

Vines planted in 1998 and Cobb has worked with them since 2003. Brimming red fruit with raspberries, cherries and lingonberries, but also some spices. There is a silky tannic structure and an energetic acidity. The fruit is slightly tart on the palate. This is a forward wine with a vibrant expression and great fruit. Will have a long life ahead.
