  • Bought in 2018 when in Rome. Color had started to almost brown, but you you wouldn’t think that from the flavor (raisin colored, but not raisin flavored). Still vibrant and balanced after a 3+hr decant. Fun trip down memory lane. Last bottle, sadly.

  • One off ($49.99) from online wine clearinghouse #1 about 2 years ago. On the nose and palate, red and black cherries, cranberries, chewy black currants, rust, tomato leaf, earthy herbality, smoke, cedar chips, mocha, graphite and a bit of tar. Medium ruby, slightly darkening over time, medium bodied, medium thick legs. Medium+ tannins and acidity, no heat. VG+ complexity, intensity and persistence. Interesting compare-contrast with the Terre Nere of a couple of weeks ago. This wine is more open (perhaps not surprisingly, since it had almost 2 hours of air and is 3 years older), modern and fruit driven, the TN more rustic, earthy and traditional. Like many of my recent ‘12s, this was pretty much good to go off the pour, although it did smooth and deepen just a bit during the time it was open. The fruitier feel made this the better wine as a standalone, but there was still plenty of structure here for it to excel with spaghetti and meatballs. Holding well on night 2, giving every indication that, while it’s in its drinking window and probably around its peak, there’s plenty of time for reasonably well stored bottles. I’ve written often of my fondness for BdMs, and while this cuvée doesn’t necessarily compete with the best of them, it’s more than solid, good qpr, and I’d definitely consider repurchasing. 92-93+

  • Red with hints of brown coloring, meaning I won't wait long before uncorking my other bottles. Spice box flavors. Density. Not a gulper, a sipper, one to nibble on. Lovely wine that demands food. [Tasting again 20210327 and just loving this. Complex and wonderful wine. Undoubtedly should be scored higher. Will buy current and future vintages!]
