Polished dark fruit, dried figs, savory herbs, a hefty whiff of alcohol, but otherwise good acid, balanced and elegant. Aside from some dusty road, it Doesn’t taste much like Sangiovese, let alone Brunello. Ready to drink with a short decant and good finish.

Medium-deep garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty, cedar & floral notes, dried herbs, spices, smoky, minerals & vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sour cherries, mulberries & plums with earthy, spices, some herbs, mushrooms, minerals & vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and airing but has the fruit & structure to continue development with further aging. Excellent QPR especially when found discounted around $25!

WSET Diploma blinds Practice 2 (SF): (blind)
Medium minus garnet color, with prominent tears.
M+ intensity, clean aromatics
- Dried red cherry
- Dried roses
- Dried fig, browned apple, leather
- Slight toast, faint old cinnamon (used oak)
Dry, M+ body, H alcohol (feels 14.5% - actually 15.5%!), M+ acid, H tannins
Pronounced flavor intensity
- dried cherry
- leaves
- dried spices
- fig
- leather
- tobacco
Long, evolving finish.
Final Conclusion [I forgot to lateral Brunello/Nebbiolo]
2007 Barolo Riserva
Actual: Brunello di Montalcino
The more prominent oak and the heavier, fleshier frame could have taken me to Brunello instead of Barolo. I should at least have considered it.
