This was an other deliberate infanticide -- because we wanted to try an unfamiliar wine, strongly recommended by Jane Anson, to decide whether to buy more (at $38 per bottle for 2018 futures). We liked the wine but are not buying more -- there are better values at that price.
The first test of the aroma is whether I can get a clear sense of it as I am decanting. In this case, there was an enveloping cloud of leathery dark-fruitedness. The wine is more tannic than acidic, with flavors of leather, blackberry, and Chinese spices. It is still very tannic on day 2. Full-bodied, rich -- very much a Right Bank, merlot-heavy (80%) profile. It will be at least another 5 years before it is really ready to drink.

Ripe plum, black cherry, underbrush, smoke and a hint of espresso open the nose. On the palate, the wine is silky, spicy, fresh and shows a bit of tannin that needs to soften. A few years in the bottle will allow the juicy, fresh, red fruits to come alive, and for more length and softness to appear
Licorice, espresso, earth and black raspberry with the perfect accent of truffle in the nose, this medium-bodied wine is soft, silky, sweet and fresh with more of that juicy black raspberry in the finish. 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc create the blend and the wine is aged in 85% new French oak barrels for 18 months.
