  • Ikke dekantert. Forbausende pinot fra California. Nesten som en godt utviklet burgund, herlig frukt, alt på plass. Mindre frukt, og spinklere dag 2.

  • Long one of my favorite American producers of Pinot Noir, Calera did not disappoint with this wine. Very complex in every aspect. Nose ranges from deep fruit to a rich, rain-soaked garden soil, and peripheral spices and thyme with an undertone of smoke. Fruit dominates the mouth, no sign of the alcohol, but nice, soft tannins Fruit returns in the long finish. Decanted and stoppered, and drank with a pan-roasted duck breast, which is my personal favorite meal for a Pinot.

  • On the richer, fuller side for Pinot with smooth, long finish. Excellent

  • Up from a 50 degree Maine winter cellar, visually a medium extracted dark red with prune color at the rim, and with mild coaxing, gives off an immediate concentrated dark core of black cherry, cola and, at this temperature, reluctantly reticent strawberry that presents at the periphery of the Riedel Burgundy glass, with a whiff of barrel toasting in the nose.
The mouthfeel is of medium body, with perfectly balanced acidity, and brilliant on the palate, without any imposition or distraction from the luscious intertwining of the appropriately sweet fruit flavors by the 14.9% alcohol level.
As the wine warms, the finish extends over several minutes, with the palate stretching into an elongated Burgundian presentation, true to the fruit’s limestone etiological habitat. A beautiful wine in its level of sophistication, and one commensurate selling at a price point at the time of purchase.
