First of a case of six. Not a very expressive nose, mid to deep garnet red. The first glass straight after double decanting was quite lean and a little tannic and not very promising. Vacuumed and left it for 3 hours then had a second glass, it tasted like a completely different wine, it had come together with more body and mouthfeel and lovely fruit and mineral flavours and a touch of bacon fat. Drinking beautifully.

Quintessential Cote-Rotie. Elegant aromas of smoke-tinted violets and purple flowers, followed by blueberry, blackberry and dark raspberry pastille, with layers of vine smoke, charcoal, black pepper, gamey meats and tapenade. There is power, but this unfolds elegantly with expertly balanced acidity and freshness. Very good indeed.

95% Syrah with 5% Viognier. Vines are co-planted and approximately 20 years old on average. Certified organic—harvested and sorted by hand. Grapes are put into the tank by gravity, partially de-stemmed, and fermented with their indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged two years in oak barrels (15% new) with no filtration before bottling.
True to the defining characteristic of Cote-Rotie, the aromas of fresh berries, campfire, lavender, bacon fat, peppercorn, and violets leap from the glass. The dense yet elegant palate shows fresh acidity to support the tannins and lengthy finish. Black olive, gravel, roasted game, and ripe blackberry flavors provide a sultry appeal to please the most discriminating of palates.

Young and very primary at this stage. Seems to have a nice minerality on the nose. Fruit is pure and cool, nice overall balance, youthful dry tannins on the finish. Definitely needs some time.

Excellent wine. But really needs an hour or two of air before drinking. Then, intense and bloody.
