  • Kleur: Medium strogeel. Algemeen / potentieel: 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 92/100

Colour: Medium straw yellow. Aroma / bouquet: Even a few hours after opening, the wine remains semi-closed. A limited but refined bouquet. A hint of citrus, some (unripe) pineapple. In the distance some roasted beechnuts, freshly baked baguette. Taste / Aftertaste: Pleasant, fresh and somewhat sweet acidity, filmy and round mouthfeel, in the mouth clearly more power and concentration, albeit with a limited aromatic expression. Flawless and seductive. General / Potential: 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 11 + Taste / Aftertaste: 17 + General / Potential: 9 = 92/100

  • In quite a nice place, and I like a number of '16s--including this one--more than I did on release. This is big and pretty bold but also quite pure, and it has a velvet texture. Not exactly electric but not flabby either. Better with air and probably better still with a few more years. Third bottle of this with consistent results.

  • This was a fascinating foil to the '16 Genot-Boulanger Garenne opened alongside it. This was fatter and grander than the Genot but notably less lively. That's no knock on this wine; just different styles. I love the bold fruit here and the seductive texture. I enjoyed them both immensely.

  • Super-duper good. Intense Chardonnay fruit on nose and palate with serious weight on the palate, yet with a silky texture. Strong lemon cream note and long finish. Perhaps not the blockbuster that '17 is--this has neither the extract nor the acidity of Leflaive's spellbinding '17s--but that's no knock. Bottle was gone in a flash.

  • Medium expressive nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, apple, yellow peach, a hint of lemon curd, matchstick, marzipan, sweet spices and limestone. Excellent concentration, nicely layered concentrated sweet ripe yellow fruit, rich and opulent yet good detail and precision, bright acidity, strong mineral and a long rich yellow fruit driven finish. This shows impressive concentration. It will be fascinating to see how this develops.
