  • Ruby almost to the edge. Fragrant, mild stem tones, rising berry and, yes, spice. Lovely medium weight, shot through with soil. Energetic black fruit enlivened by outstanding acidity and supported by fine tannins which still provide a touch of austerity. More blue fruit shows up after several hours, and overall, it sweetens and rounds out really well. Just immensely impressive Vosne Premier Cru that is already a delight but poised for 10 to 15 years of further development.

  • #1 of 7 AL flight with 2013 VR les Chaumes and 1993 Arnoux VR Suchots. Decanted at noon. Deep violet, almost plummy color. Talk about busting with juicy red fruit, spice and more fruit. I was impressed with the depth and concentration of the juice. The 2013s oak was less integrated and competed a bit where the 16s oak was better integrated and its fruit more concentrated making it the better candidate for cellaring. I would check back in 5 and 10 years.

These AL wines are clearly more generous in their youth than the Robert Arnoux wines that I was familiar with from the 70s and 80s. BTW - The 1993 was a delicious mature Vosne Romanee.

  • Slightly richer and more extracted than the 2017 Vosne Romanee next to it. Dark fruited with fine rose petal spices and hints of green stems. Lovely phenolic ripeness with minerality. A step up in weight compared to 2017 but more reserved. (88-89/100)
