  • Raspberry and blackberry on the nose, together with dark spices and a slate note. Touches of violet and tapenade. Medium to full bodied and fresh on the palate. High, fine tannins and a long, pepper flecked finish. Drink now or hold.

    WSET Notes:

    Deep ruby.

Pronounced on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, tapenade, violet, slate, cedar, clove, and leather. Developing.

Pronounced and dry on the palate with black pepper coming through. Medium plus body, medium alcohol, high tannins, high acidity, long finish.

Can drink now but has potential for aging.

Vinklubb S.

  • In retrospect, I wished I hadn’t opened this tonight, my only bottle. Great textbook example of vintage variation….opened the 2017 two years ago and it was singing.

Decanted prior to a dinner of grilled ribeye, mushrooms and corn on the cob. This displays a medium purple color. Comes across as primary: sweet purple florals, vanilla, ripe, black and blueberry, evolving black olive, licorice, anise spice, espresso, and chewy red granite soil. Structural components, especially grainy tannins, definitely make their presence known, but have yet to fully integrate. Juicy mouthfeel. Enough “oomph” to handle the food. Decant or hold through 2024 or drink through 2036. Lots of upside potential.

  • Medium bodied. Plummy soft berries. A hint of stems and VA adds lift and a touch of an briny olive note, but we are clearly in the more modern fruity style.

Quite easy going elegant wine, but not the mose complex.

  • Northern Rhone night at Chaoshan: My contribution. Was quite disappointed by how modern this was after having been impressed by the entry-level Sybarine that gave me an impression that this was a producer that had reined in its modernity. Oak use was quite obtrusive, ripe but gently extracted blue and purple fruit. Get the Sybarine which is more red-fruited and saw less new oak use.
