Fabulous Cab Francs at Shears Grotto (Shear's Grotto): Dusty chalk on the nose with black raspberry/blackberry and a touch of pleasant play dough. Silky palate, with a fair bit of juiciness coming through. The finish was a tad short but very nice wine. Impressive finish against some stiff competition. My 6/6 and the Group's 6/6

Popped and poured. Dark ruby color. Nose of ripe black cherry and black currant, a good amount of sweet vanilla and oak and some dark chocolate. Similar flavors on the palate with a spicy fruit driven profile with oak notes on the finish. Medium acid and tannin. Seemed to have a little glycerin on the mouthfeel and missing that little bit of greenness to balance the wine out. Most people would find this to be delicious but it seemed slightly over oaked to me.

Earth and slight cherry on opening with a bitter finish. After decanting 2 hours it came together for balance but not a lot of depth or acidity. On edge with aging in my opinion.

I'm really surprised by the notes on this wine, they're not at all what I saw in the bottle this evening. Dark cherry, cassis and some menthol on the nose. Silky smooth on the palate, finish tails off a touch, but other than that a complete joy to drink. THis surprised me.
