  • Great wine. Lots of dark fruit and drying tannin. Simply smashable.

  • Beautiful nose of blackberries, black plums, Cassis. Plenty of time to burn. Drink now to 2040. 92

  • Medium depth opacity, dark plum red, clear. No obvious legs. 3
Rich crushed berry and leaf nose. Vibrant. Soft spicy tones emerge, leading to sweet floral scents. Complex, interesting.6.5
Full tart cranberry flavours. Sharp bite. Firm-moderate acidity. Dry, but with a hint of fruity sweetness. Spicy tannin, furry, but not too astringent. Good potential for aging with the acidity and tannin. I think it will improve and soften with age. It is still a bit harsh. Structure is good, slightly hollow. Fiery spirit finish. It will probably soften a bit and open with breathing. I’ll come back with more thoughts with the next glass…. 8
2 hours later: It has not softened with breathing yet. It has a sharp fiery bite and the tannin is more obviously dry and furry. 3 or 4 more years in the bottle should improve it. It is interesting that several reviewers gave it more than 90 points. Maybe they prefer harsh younger wines, or score it with a view to potential aging?

  • Deep plume colour in the glass. Dark fruits such as plum, blackberries with chocolate and oaky vanilla / baking spices. Palate is rich and opulent, fruit forward with ample tannins acidity and freshness. Herbals and menthol with some green vine notes make up the long finish. Will continue to develop nicely. OK I have a softspot / bias for this wine as one of the earliest labels discovered as a very young wine drinker still at school but have been disappointed by my tastings of 2013 and later vintage so great to see a return to form here with 2016.

  • Always fun to check back on a wine which you had 5 years previous, notes of dark cherry, blackcurrant, iodine, pepper and savoury spice. The palate is refined and elegant with ripe dark cherries, soya sauce and freshly crushed herbs and pepper. A savoury mid-palate finishing medium and dry. surprised this is already evolving.
