  • Taste New Wines for Aug (San Diego Wine Co.): 95% Merlot & 5% C.S.; "A blend of barrels from Novelty Hill’s estate Vyd Stillwater Creek on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills, along with select lots from the Horse Heaven Hills & the Tri-Cities area; Gentle pump overs during fermentation were used to submerge the skins & extract color & flavor from the grapes; Gravity-racked every 5 mos to soften & clarify the wine; Aged 19 mos in new & used barrels, 75% FR & 25% AM oak;" 14.4% ABV, 0.55 g/100 ml T.A., & 3.70 pH; 3,948 cases produced.

    N: Minerals slightly atop cherries

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which morphs into a LONG, balanced, POSS very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a touch of tangy/swtness to the few, firming, dusty tannins. For now with food, MIGHT improve for 6-9 mos, then drink through '22. My VG+; [This vendor's $16.99 is $3 < wine-searcher's lowest.]
