  • Wine with a great layered structure. It starts with plenty of dark fruit, such as plum and fig, then immediately the spices with licorice at the forefront and a floral note from violets. It lingers on the palate for an eternity. Already excellent at this stage, it probably can age for another fifty years, thanks to its excellent acidity.

  • Nose: [58°] Initial nose of violets with softly bright red fruits with a subtle touch of black olives, laid out on a damp forest floor and stone. With time, aromas settle into damp, fruited earth, tree bark, flowers and pencil lead. [62°] There's also a bit of smoked, damp bark as well.

Palate: [58°-64°] A nice depth of graphite with a soft landing on the palate. Bitter tannin like steeped black tea and pulverized oak. Black fruits are there but in the background, acting as a support role. Savory minerals on the finish.

Attributes: Dark ruby. Dry with medium to medium-plus amounts of fine, grippy tannin. Medium to medium-plus body with medium acidity. Good finish of at least 13-15 seconds. Fine sediment in bottle.

Thoughts: Started off really tight but quite fresh and even appealing. Admitting bias there though, there's something about young Bordeaux that is always fun to me. Very difficult to tell how this will develop later. Do the usual Bordeaux cellaring I guess.. 8+ years before even trying. 93-94 for now with possible upside.

Serving notes: Bordeaux glass. Served one glass and emptied bottle into a decanter at cellar temp ~55° and consumed over 8 hours. Recommend serving ~58°-62° with a decant of at least 4-6 hours at cellar temp if opening now.

  • Excellent -- quite modern in style -- great fruit, somewhat subdued -- will wait a while before there next one.

  • (at The French - Naples). Wonderful wine that sits on the edge. Red/black fruit. Richness/brightness. Obviously young but has early appeal. Not flamboyant which is a plus. Really good. (94)
