Friday at the strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon): Ripe plum, slight leather and reductive notes lend a touch of rubber, quite concentrated. Sweet oak spice especially cinnamon, textured grip closes down the palate and is pretty much in control with sweet ripe plum, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Meh.

Initially Has the perfume of a northern rhone Syrah with some cooked character. Gets itself together after a few minutes in the glass and the fruit becomes a little more pure. A nod to classic Oz Shiraz but very much with one foot in the Northern Rhone. Blackcurrant, menthol, black cherry; quite fresh on the entry, crunchy fruit. Understated, full but not OTT. Quite tangy on the finish. Tastes a little young on the palate, like it’s still coming together but has potential.

Black purple/crimson colour, very thin hue. Aroma of pepper, spice and old oak. Smooth finish, fine coating tannin. Spice, pepper, dark fruit. Fresh fruit, medium body, great drinking now, great potential.
