  • Tom Courtney drank in Piedmont and loved it. Another winner from La Morra

  • The '16 Brunate is an excellent, classic Barolo. The nose is beautifully perfumed and very true to the Brunate vineyard, leading with licorice, black and dark red cherry fruits, sweet spices and a hint of balsamic, and menthol. On the palate, the wine is also super classic, with a mid-weight density but plenty of intensity with medium to high, gripping tannins and high acidity. I found sweet, balsamic spices, black fruit, and licorice along with a touch of cool-toned, fresh herbs like sage and mint. While it's drinkable if you like young Nebbiolo, and the flavors are quite open, the palate will definitely improve significantly as the tannins integrate.

The '16 Brunate is true to my experience with Oddero's wines - I find them to be very classic, slightly rustic wines - but this is the best wine I've tasted from them so far.

  • Excellent wine. Medium red in colour, great acidity , slight raspberry nose on opening . Good sweetness, good flavours of red fruit with a strong tannic spine . There is a dryness on the back of the palate from the tannins .
This wine does soften and the fruit becomes more prevalent as you finish this bottle. Approachable now but has the potential to be a much better wine with more cellaring. Great intensity of flavours and with the acidity gives this wine a very refreshing taste !
Second day the wine was dominated by the tannins.

  • Oddero's 2016 Brunate is darker and more powerful than other Barolo this vintage, as this La Morra vineyard usually is, with black cherry, balsamic notes, dried rose, and cedar on the nose preluding a palate of dark fruit and earth. Fairy well structured with dense tannins and in need of time. Drink starting 2027.

  • 2016 Barolo Check-in: Darker tones nose of black cherries, violets, a hint of licorice, and a very slight vanilla note. Good structure with tar, dark fruit, tart berries, and strong tannins on the palate. This was the most powerful of the 2016s tasted and I feel like it needs quite a bit of time. Nice finish. Drink in 10-15 years. 94-95

Note: Bottle was opened a few days before tasting.
