Drunk over two evenings. Deep crimson colour. A bouquet of dark plums, blackcurrants and polished mahogany mantlepiece, with hints of high percentage cocoa chocolate and dark spices. On palate, good acidity, reasonably racy. A bit like a leaner vintage Bordeaux, like a 2004 or 2007, without the density or all of the complexity. Refreshing. Reasonably soft tannins. Flavours of blackcurrants, blackberries and cigar box. Sufficient dry extract but it could use more. However, it finishes reasonably long and dry. Really improved drinking with my beef stew. In its drinking window now. No immediate hurry needed, I'd think, but it won't improve from here.

Dark plum colored. Aromas of dark red fruits with woody tones. A nicely grainy and grippy palate with some richness, dry finish and good persistence. Very Bordeaux like. We appreciated the smooth, modulated palate and its food friendliness (and had no problem disposing of a magnum of it!) , but we drank it without much comment and agreed later that the wine didnt have the bouquet or something that would make it more memorable.

Not bad at all. Actually quite impressive, but too expensive.

Te Mata Coleraine vertical (Institute of Directors, London): Monty chocolate nose - just like and After Eight - like the 2003 this showed bags and bags of oak and ripe fruit, and was very attractive

Wine Education Service - Bordeaux Style (Imperial College): Fruity nose with a hint of age, very pleasant.
Luscious fruit, soft tannins,, mellow middle, youthful (would repay keeping four years), good length.
