Barolo and Truffle dinner (Flat 9): Delicious wine, although no way should it cost 2-4x as much as tonight's other Barolos. Rather rich and sunny in feel, and still in very much a primary phase, although also balanced and energetic. ACYSO summed up my feelings on this well below.

2017 Giacomo Conterno Barolos (Chicago, IL): The Cerretta has always struck me as the darker complexioned and riper site in the Conterno lineup. This bottle fits the bill quite clearly, with a nose that is driven more by black cherry than red. Much more intense and opulent on the palate in contrast to the Arione, I think that this holds its alcohol better. Almost a hint sweet, this is the most accessible and hiding its tannins right now.

Brief impressions tasting at the winery. Very aromatic, opening with bright red fruit, savory spices, and cool herbs, a very classic expression that reminds me a bit of Pinot Noir. Definitely wouldn't peg this as a hot vintage in terms of the aromatic profile. On the palate, medium in body with tannins poking out at the end, but elegant by 2017 standards. Excellent wine.
